One Beam of Light

One Beam of Light is a new collaboration project between Light Collective and Havells-Sylvania’s Concord Lighting.

The project provides an exclusive opportunity for lighting designers to create stunning and inspirational photographs that start with a single source of light. By stripping it back to such a minimal entity, entrants are encouraged to twist and manipulate a “pure” form of light into dynamic and eye-catching imagery. Once assembled, the images will be curated by a guest panel including: Keith Bradshaw of Spiers & Major, Gerd Pfarre of Lichtplanung, Matt Clark of UVA and Terence Woodgate of Studio Woodgate. The selected images will then be exhibited in London followed by an international tour, which will take in key cities across the globe and feature the artists’ work on a large scale.

”The One Beam of Light project enables entrants to strip light to its barest essential and show their skills in manipulating the medium, and revealing its inherent beauty. We will then take the best images and use them to promote lighting design …

Inamo – And the Winner Is…

At the beginning of May, Inamo announced the overall winner of their Digital Tablecloth design contest. (Belated) Congratulations go to Shoma Salgaonkar-Bhave for her entry. Out of the four shortlisted designs, a public Facebook vote narrowed it down to three before the final official judging declared Shoma’s would take centre stage.

“It’s beautiful and calming, it’s like a still from a BBC wildlife epic.” Dean Kissick, i-D Magazine

As well as receiving a celebratory dinner, the entry will now be available as a digital covering in Inamo’s restaurants for the next six months…

Inamo Design Contest – I’ve Reached The Final Four!

Inamo announced on their Facebook Page today that the final four entries for their “Digital Tablecloth Design Contest” had been chosen by the judges, and my entry is one of them! I’m particularly humbled, especially by this sound-bite from Co-Founder Noel Hunwick…

“It ties in to our Oriental fusion theme, is elegantly and creatively designed, he’s clearly thought about the template and layout too.”

The four remaining designs have been assembled and are open to voting by the public. The two designs with the most votes go through to the grand finale. If you like my design, you can vote on it by clicking here and “liking” the image in Inamo’s contest photo album. Many thanks in advance!

The Dark Knight Rises: T-Shirt Design Contest @ Design By Humans

Whilst we all await Christopher Nolan’s hotly anticipated third instalment in the Batman reboot, the guys at Design By Humans have launched a contest in conjunction with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to design an official T-shirt  for the film.

Ten finalists will have their work judged by Nolan and Producer Emma Thomas, who will then decide the winners. This is a fantastic opportunity for any creative designer (and film lover!), and it also gets your work potential exposure with the Film’s Art Department.

The Prizes range from $1.500 for 5th place, up to $3,500 for 1st, plus 1st-5th place winners get 12 tees of their choice from the website’s store.

You must be 18 or over to enter, but all countries are eligible. The contest is open until Midnight PST April 11th, with the winners announced from April 30th. Full Guidelines and Terms of Service can be found at the official competition site page.

Inamo Digital Tablecloth Design Contest

At Inamo, the dining experience is all about fun and interaction. Utilizing the E-Table visual ordering service, a digital menu system is projected onto your table from the pods above. From this, you are able to browse and preview your choices as the meals spring to life on your plate. Click “order”, and the real thing will be with you in a matter of minutes. But that’s only half the story. The same system allows you to set the mood of the table, enabling you to choose from a variety of “tablecloths” in the form of patterns & images. In addition, you can access a “Kitchen Cam” to see the cooking in action, play games like Pairs & Battleships with your fellow diner, get ideas on where to go next and even order a cab.

You will also win a celebration dinner for you and 10 colleagues at the restaurant and 30% off food for the rest of 2012 for your company! You can download a template for your design entries from their website, and then submit your final proposal by uploading it to the official Facebook Page.

I had the pleasure of visiting Inamo last week, and it was a fantastic experience. Upon hearing about this contest, I couldn’t help but give it a go myself…
