One of my good friends is planning to set himself up as an independent lighting consultant in the US, and recently asked if I could help design a logo for him. With the name “David Lapham Lighting Design“, he really liked the Palindrome nature of the initials, and wanted to incorporate a pseudo-symmetrical look to the design. He also wanted to stick to typography. The image below is the second round “developed concept”.
In an attempt to push the notion of pseudo-symmetry, I used a mixture of lower and upper cases for the initials, and then for a twist, constructed the capital L and D from negative space, using the lower case l in the process. I then played around with a variety of colours and finishes.
The combination of these elements resulted in a simple yet bold juxtaposition, and a fairly eye-catching brand identity concept.
Feedback has been highly positive, and I’m currently awaiting confirmation on the preferred colour of choice. Once finalised, I’ll be sure to upload the official design!
