Every now and then, I get the opportunity to check out a new website or service. Recently I was approached by the guys at Gadget Inspector to review their platform, who also threw in an RC Android for me to put through its paces.
Gadget Inspector has just about anything you could possibly wish to throw money at. From cuff links to helicopters, speakers to lighting, all areas are covered with a variety of tastes and styles. The site itself is user friendly and nicely laid out; clicking any of the main categories brings up a page with both a price slider and extensive list of categories to filter results. This is also matched with a search bar at the top right.
The homepage also features a summary of the best selling items, new products just added, and regular “deal of the week” specials for quick browsing. Customers can choose to either use the express checkout option when buying items, or register with the site for additional ordering support and saving their details for future purchases.
The RC Inflatable Android arrived in a decent sized box (It’s 65cm when assembled), which contained several components. One of these is indeed a mini foot-pump! However, you will need your own batteries – 4xAA and 1x9V - and a screwdriver to remove the small panels. The AA’s fit into the toy’s RC drive unit which fixes to & sits under the base of the toy, whilst the 9V slots into the controller.
Once the drive unit and additional wheels are attached to the base, inflate the body (this takes a little bit of time even with the pump), switch on the drive unit and you’re good to go! Its pretty responsive, and the motion is nice and quick. Left & right will spin the android rather than turn, and it also has a “weeble” like self-righting mechanism to prevent it from falling over even when you try! It’s also pretty robust; we’ve already had it knocking off walls and furniture as it scooted around the house, and with no sign of wear.
Overall, its a fun gift for any true lovers of Google’s OS icon, and should also be a hit with younger children.
