WIP – LydbrookParish.co.uk

If you’re wondering why things have been a bit quiet lately, its because I’ve been busy working on the new website for Lydbrook Parish Council. The Council were after a modern and fresh looking online presence. Important information must be available to visitors such as events, tourist information, amenities & planning announcements, and Council members will have access to meeting minutes and accounts etc (with secure login). There is also a forum section for people to register to.

I’ve primarily been asked to set-up the site’s main framework and paging, so a lot of the current content is in essence “placeholder” info. The parish is in the process of gathering together all the imagery & data they wish to drop onto the site, and I’ll be helping them upload and assemble the content. A lot of the areas still “WIP” will be progressed as this content is added.

Initial feedback from the parish has been very positive. I’ll be sure to post updates on the site as it evolves and develops over the …

Pizza Hut App

Like Video Games? Fancy a Pizza? Why Not Both?

As mentioned on Engadget, Microsoft is due to launch a Pizza Hut app on the Xbox 360. Not only will the full menu be a click away, but it will also be able to handle custom orders, you can connect to fellow eater friends on Facebook, and even Kinect audio support is suggested…

Who knows what next. Could this be the start of a slew of online takeaway applications? And where do you go from food?

One Beam Of Light – The Exhibition

This week, the finalists of the One Beam Of Light competition were exhibited at London’s ICA.

Organised by Light Collective & Concord, and open to the public, just over 360 images were initially submitted to the project. This was then whittled down to a shortlist of 100 by the project’s Curation Panel. This shortlist can be seen on-line, in the printed newspaper that was available as a free hand-out at the Institute of Contemporary Art from 16 – 20 April and as a PDF for download from the website. The publication guides visitors around the exhibition as well as giving readers an insight into the people who created each image and their inspiration.

31 images made it through to the final curation. In addition to the exhibits, GNI Projects created a fantastic light sculpture as a centrepiece for the event. The opening was a great success, with many members of the lighting community coming together to see the …

UXPA – An Evening of Creativity

Angela and I recently attended the UXPA‘s March event simply called “Creativity“.

During the evening, we took part  in three different workshops, each with its own method or approach to encourage creativity.

Peter Otto from Condeco lead a workshop on design games; how playful engagement with a design problem helps letting go of perceived boundaries in order to spark creativity and innovative thinking.

Michelle Ide-Smith from Red Gate Software gave some tips and techniques she had learned for getting started with live sketchnoting, and tested our note-taking mettle by getting us to put it into practise.

Anja Maerz, Filip Healy, and Felipe Rodríguez from Amberlight helped groups bring an idea to life in a very short time using 3 different methods.. acting with props, having an illustrator draw the idea, or using a combination of text prompts and sketches.

The whole evening was a lot of fun, and provided some really useful ideas for enhancing your own creative thought process when working on new projects. If you want to learn …

Out of Nowhere משום מקום

Check out this great animated short by Maayan Tzuriel, via Vimeo.

“Every morning, an old lifeguard arrives for another day of work, when in fact the swimming pool he guards has been empty for years. One day an unexpected guest appears out of nowhere, filling him with doubts about his everyday reality.

How do we face an existence in which one is no longer relevant? How can we continue to live in an illusion? Two seemingly opposite characters meet in a peculiar situation. When their similarities are revealed, the protagonist is forced to reexamine his life and choose between living a life of sterile existence or stepping outside of his world to discover new horizons.”

Until the end of March 12th, Marvel have made available 700 issue 1 titles free to download, as part of a major promotion on the Marvel Comics app and Marvel Comics Digital Comics Shop. The aim is to encourage new readers or fans of the films to check out the comics, and target regular readers with introductions to other series.

“This is the perfect way to show everyone how much we believe in our material by letting them try the first issues for free, because we’re sure once they start, they won’t stop..”  - Marvel SVP Sales, Digital & Print David Gabriel.

The services might be under a lot of strain, but grab what you can before it’s too late!
